the voice

can a voice be lost,
if in passing, the presence
is no longer there?

will I remember
the whispered musings and diffuse images
without the physical shape?

i never saw her face;
she was shy that way,
curtaining herself behind sheer poetry.

ever there, a friend
whose countenance i did not know,
a chasm too large to fill.

a life ended too soon

I was shocked and so saddened when I read this news. I have missed her posts and comments lately, but had no idea....

Sanna, I was stunned when I found out this morning. I've been so busy, that I hadn't even noticed her lack of posts lately. Her passing is truly a huge loss in this little world of ours.

Debbie, I'm not sure where to go with this...why I'm so affected by her death...as if she were family. But I suppose she was, in a way. I will miss her upbeat spirit. Even when things didn't look so rosy, she always had something positive to say, to look for the silver lining. She will be missed.

No, sweet friend, a voice can't be lost. In our shock, we remember it, because it is imprinted here, in our hearts. Thank you for your beautiful poem for Char.

Ruthie, I've been perplexed by the depth of emotion I've been feeling about this. My offering is paltry in comparison to yours, but I had to write what was in my heart.

It just shows that we never know how much we are loved by others or how much of an affect we can have on their lives.

Sanna, you are so right. It's a lesson we can all take from this.

Beautiful poem, Susan, and a wonderful tribute. I never knew char, but am sorry for her loss as she clearly touched so many.

Thank you for this--you are a poet :)

Dutchbaby, it was such a shock hearing about Char's death. It's hard to understand how a person can be here one minute, and gone the next. I've always had a hard time accepting that fact of life.

Thank you, dear ds, I don't think of myself as a poet, but sometimes one just pops out of me. They don't follow any form or standard, so I'm not sure they actually qualify as poetry. :)

How can one feel so deeply about someone only known through writing and photography and a kind voice? It puzzles me.

I don't know how I nearly missed this Susan! I have been very surprised at how much Char's death has touched me too...I haven't been able to stop thinking about her and the loss of her. Your poem is simply beautiful...
